Last weekend JNL Racing travelled north to Queensland Raceway to test for the 4th round of the Australasian Superbike Championship. Yamaha Race Team had invited Luke to join them at their test day on Monday and we also took advantage of the Champions Ride Day and FX Club day on Saturday and Sunday respectively as did the team and other invited riders.
Our main aim was to build race fitness back up, which we appear to be achieving. Soreness in the back only kicking in on Monday. We practiced on Saturday using up old tyres to just get a feel for the track again achieving a personal best.
The FX Club Day on Sunday was a wet start to the day. With qualifying in the wet Luke fast enough to get P4 behind Spriggs, Blair and Elliott and they were all hoping that the day would clear for racing. It looked like clearing but not enough to know what tyres to use as the day progressed. We all did the first race on wets with Luke getting a third place overall finish and then he changed to cut slicks for the remainder of the day. Race two was patchy, but the choice of tyres paid off with another third place overall. Race 3 and 4 saw Luke get another 3rd an 4th respectively giving me 3rd place outright for the day and 1st in B Grade. At presentation, Terry announced he wouldn’t be including the blow ins from the Australasian Superbike Championship in the series point score. We think it’s pretty fair that Terry made this decision, because after all Luke was only there for the practice and the race your mates and FX Club Day riders have some pretty awesome prizes on offer in the series points -we just appreciated the ability to drop in and get some much needed practice on the track we will race on in 3 weeks.
Monday was as pretty laid back day testing on the track. Luke made a lot of progress reducing his personal best even more. Now we look forward for the preparations for our return to Queensland raceway in 3 weeks time.
